Director of Library Services: Mike Hanks
I have been with the Huxley Public Library since October, 2000. I am a State of Iowa Certified Public Librarian - Level III and am currently serving my second term as President of the Story County Library Association. I am a 1988 Ballard Graduate and a life-long resident of the Ballard Community. I have 20 years of customer service experience, so serving the public is second nature to me. Being a Librarian appeals to me in many ways such as; providing free, unbiased, unrestricted, and equal access to materials and information to all of our patrons. My main hobby is collecting & selling die-cast toy cars on eBay, but I also enjoy reading, music, family, my dogs, life-long learning, computers & new technology.
Program Coordinator: Kris Bugler
I am a fairly recent addition to the Huxley community. My family and I moved here in 2000 from California, but I am an Iowan at heart. I love to read a good book and for that matter even a bad one will do. I worked in the Ames School district for 6 years in the Special Ed dept and did childcare for 17 years before that. I can honestly say that I never aspired to be a librarian when I grew up, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am thrilled and honored to be able to do this job and work with such terrific people.
Program Coordinator Assistant: Melissa " Mel" Haynes
I have been involved with the library since 2004, first as a volunteer and then as a staff member. I enjoy working with the children's crafts and programming. I am also a Facilitator for the National Association for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). I enjoy walking my dog when it's nice. My dog, however, prefers the snow.
Interlibrary Loan: Bonnie Jackson
I am fairly new to Iowa and the Huxley community, having moved here from Wyoming with my husband in 2005. I enjoy my work with interlibrary loans and access plus. It’s a good feeling to know that I have a part in all of the books coming from and going to other libraries and our patrons. I feel privileged to be member of the Huxley Public Library team. I enjoy broadening my knowledge of books and subjects, camping, church activities, and my grandchildren.
Cataloging: Brenda Goller
I recently moved from California to Iowa to be closer to my daughter and grandchildren. I have always been an avid reader. In 2005 I paid a visit to the Huxley Public Library and found my niche. Being a cataloger, I get to process and get first glance at all of the new books we receive. No matter how much time I spend reading, my list seems to get longer by the day. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Assistant: Heather Deaton
I am a 2006 Ballard Graduate and currently a student at DMACC. I have been at the library since 2005 and specialize in book repairs. I have lived in Huxley all of my life. I enjoy meeting new people and working with the public. I am interested in drawing, art, manga, science fiction.
Assistant: Kaitlin Romsey
I am a 2006 Ballard Graduate and currently a student at DMACC. I have been at the library since 2005. I enjoy my job at the library because I am surrounded by books in a positive environment that promotes reading and life-long learning. In my spare time I enjoy, history, animals, reading, drawing and art.
Assistant: Connie Harper
I have been part of the library team since 2006. I work in the afternoons and evenings. I am a mother of two wonderful children. I enjoy reading, music and the arts.
Assistant: Kristin Clark
I have been at the library since 2006. I am a stay-at-home mother of 3, except for Saturdays when you will find me among the stacks at the library.
Assistant: Karen Anderson
In August, 2006, I was pleased to be given the opportunity to begin working part-time at the library. I retired from Ballard Jr/Sr High School in June, 2005 after working as a school secretary for 23 years. I enjoy being able to serve the library patrons and once again work with Ballard students. Some things I like to do when I’m not at the library include gardening, reading, attending football games and traveling, especially to visit sons in Bozeman, Montana and Tampa, Florida.
Assistant: Joann Scott
I am a retired teacher who moved to Huxley from Cedar Falls in 2005 to be nearer to my two sons and their families. My oldest son, Lee, lives in Nevada with his wife and seven cats and my younger son, Jay, lives in Kelley with his wife and my two granddaughters, Molly Ann, a kindergartner at Ballard, and Katelyn Jo, soon to be four months old. I grew up in central Iowa (northwest of Newton), so I really feel that I have come "home". Needless to say, reading, whether required or for enjoyment, has always been very important in my life.
