The City of Huxley Boards are important for gaining community involvement, providing citizen feedback, performing peer reviews, fund raising, grant writing a nd general operational advising. All board positions are considered voluntary and are appointed by the Mayor and City Council. If you are interested in serving on any boards or commission stop by city hall and pick up an application Or fill out and submit a membership by clicking here and printing off the application form.
Some of the boards that our residents cooperate with are:
- Library Board - The Library Board oversees all library operations. They set library policy and control library spending. This board is fully independent of the city although the majority of their funding comes from the city.
- Parks and Recreation Board - The Parks and Recreation Board controls and supervises the maintenance, improvement, development, and use of the city's parks, recreational facilities, and recreation programs. Rules governing recreation program participation and the use of city parks and recreational facilities are adopted by the board. The board also makes recommendations to city council concerning a budget for operating expenses, capital improvements, and user fees.
- Planning and Zoning - The Planning & Zoning Commission is an advisory board of the city council. They reviews site plans submitted to the city, new subdivisions and zoning changes. This board also maintains the city comprehensive plan and updates the plan as needed.
- Tree Board - The Tree Board recommends city tree plantings, maintains newly planted trees and provides trees and tree planting aid to citizens.
- Zoning Board of AdjustmentsThe Board of Adjustment is independent of the city and reviews petitions from citizens seeking exceptions to the building code or to the city zoning. This board works much like a court and their decisions are considered final at the local level. Any appeal of the Board of Adjustments decisions goes to District Court.
