Mayor - Craig Henry

Occupation: Sales Engineer for Scale Source North LLC
Years as a Huxley Resident: 18
Why Did You Run for City Council: Wherever I have lived I have been involved in the community—either through school, church or other activities. Several years ago a situation motivated me to investigate and I felt compelled to run for city council. I have since tried to continue learning about city government and serving the citizens of Huxley. My only other reason was obviously the money (not!)
What Goals Did You Have and Which of Those Did You Reach: 1) One of my original goals was to improve communication with the citizens of Huxley— I believe we have come closer to that and we are continually evolving to better communicate with the citizens of our community. 2) Better planning and proactive focus instead of reactive response—I believe that we have been very proactive in our planning and focus on the city’s need for infrastructure, services and needs of our citizens. 3) Economic development plan for our community—we are not there yet but have many sound improvements with new business and residential growth. 4) A better understanding of city government, budgets and taxes—I believe this goal has been accomplished but feel committed to ongoing education and strive to improve our budget and lower our taxes.
What Was Your Most Difficult Vote: The ones that come to mind first are any personnel issues, Waste Water Treatment Plant project and the Regency project. There have been many as I tend to take the issues very seriously and often worry of the impact to our community and my fellow citizens.
What Accomplishments Are You Most Proud of: We have updated our comprehensive plan for our community, have a current capital improvements plan and have kept our city tax rate at a constant level for three years with positive growth in our community.
Vision for the City: We have many projects underway and potential challenges in the future which will affect our citizens in one way or another. We have professional and dedicated city administration and we are focused on positive proactive planning to minimize costs and maximize returns to our community and our citizens.
Family: My wife, Jeannie Henry, and I have been married for 37 years. We have two daughters, Nicole and Brandy, both of whom graduated from Ballard and Iowa State University and are married and living in Iowa.
Favorite Vacation Spot: To be honest I do not have one! I grew up in Warren County and we have three Century Farms in our family. Any time I can spend with family at the farm is a vacation for me.
