The Safe Room is now solidly 90% complete! Fireproofing for the structural members and ceilings is now in place on the interior, while the parking lot and sidewalks are in their final stages on the exterior.
The interior work on the Police Department is nearly complete as well as contractors finish installing the gypsum board. Soon the lights and mechanical duct work will be installed. This is very good newsnow that it is getting dark earlier and snow has already come once this month!
The design and construction teams continue to meet regularly onsite to keep progress going forward smoothly and adhere to the drawings, specifications, and submittal information.
The finish line is so close now, and we are all excited to see the building finished and put to use!
PRAIRIE RIDGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UPDATE
The construction phase of the Prairie Ridge Development project has been progressing for approximately six months and is almost completed with the project completion date of November 15th. At this time the contractor has finished the installation of all the sanitary sewer, water main, and storm sewer utilities. The rough grading of the site to establish the final grade elevations has also been completed with just the finish grading prior to landscaping and seeding yet to be completed. All of the paving of the public streets has been completed with only the installation of the trail and sidewalks remaining. Once that is completed it will be followed by the installation of the landscaping followed by the gas, electric and fiber optic lines and street lights and seeding of the site.
The project involves the redevelopment of the former Regency mobile home park. The City purchased the mobile home park in early 2010. The new Prairie Ridge Development includes 41 single family lots, 10 bi-attached lots, a 2.3 acre site for a multi-family development, and 5 commercial lots along E. 1st Street. A new storm water detention facility is being constructed in the northeast corner of the site to reduce runoff and improve water quality. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2011. At that time the site will be ready for home construction.
The project is being financed by tax revenue from other residential developments that must be used to benefit people within the county’s low to moderate income guidelines. The City is currently finalizing programs to assist people with home construction. If you have any questions about home building or available programs, please contact City Hall at 515-597-2561. If you any questions about the current construction project, feel free to contact the project’s engineer, Gabe Nelson with Snyder & Associates, at 515-964-2020.

Minor project items yet to complete include some seeding and mulching will be completed in the next few weeks.
Private utility companies are working to install street lights, electric lines, telephone, and gas lines. This installation will take place over the next couple of months.
